Depression: When Life Feels Heavy and Colorless
Depression doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it’s like carrying around a weight you can’t put down—everything takes more effort than you have to give. For others, it’s a kind of numbness, like the world has lost its color and you’re just going through the motions.
Maybe you find yourself scrolling for hours, binging shows, playing one more game—anything to push reality a little farther away. Maybe you’re sleeping too much, or not at all. Maybe you’ve started pulling away from people you care about, not because you don’t want connection, but because pretending you’re okay feels like too much work.
Depression can make simple things feel huge: getting out of bed, taking a shower, replying to a text. The hobbies that used to light you up now feel flat, or pointless. And somewhere under all of that, there’s a quiet thought—How long can I keep doing this?
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you’re not broken. Depression tricks you into believing you’re stuck forever, but it doesn’t have to stay this way. With the right support, you can loosen that weight, clear the fog, and feel more like you again—even if that feels far away right now.
Depression is a signal from your brain
About 1 in 4 people will experience depression at some point in their lives- which means it is something adaptive as our brains try to cope with life. Think of depression as a signal that something has been too difficult for too long or that your mind and body are trying to cope with something that isn’t easy to handle. When you feel stuck or unhappy for too long, losing motivation and essentially withdrawing from participating in life is a common way that the mind copes. You’re not broken, but your mind has gotten too good at allowing these signals to take over and become the primary way to protect you.
Therapy can help you understand the signals
Depression is something that a lot of people have experienced, so over time we have found effective ways to understand the signals and work through them. Because of the nature of depression, it’s one of the toughest things to get yourself out of alone. Finding the right support, through therapy or elsewhere, can be the key you need to understand where your depression is coming from and why it is lingering. We’d like you to feel like help is on it’s way, and that you won’t have to feel lost or lifeless much longer.

Maybe You’re Considering counseling for Depression, But Something is making it hard to reach out…
It feels overwhelming to gather everything needed to see the right therapist.
We understand that between insurance questions and scheduling and therapist specialties, it can be overwhelming. If you feel too overwhelmed to know how to begin, submit your name and a preferred method of contact in one of our forms along with the word “depression”. We have a client coordinator that is here to help get all the necessary details taken care of so you can focus on one thing, getting the support you deserve.
I’m worried about being judged or seen as “not okay.”
It's completely normal to feel this way, especially given the stigma surrounding mental health. Millions of people struggle with depression daily, and therapy is a judgement free space to get support while keeping your struggles confidential and private. Having depression doesn’t mean that you are weak or broken, but not getting help can lead you to feel that way over time. Our therapists are trained to maintain your privacy and help you with difficult conversations if you feel you have to communicate with others about your depression.
Can therapy really help?
We understand that depression can make life feel hopeless and it's difficult to find the motivation to seek help. If you decide to try therapy, our therapists will support you in creating a consistent schedule to maximize your support and benefits. Our therapists prioritize your goals and well-being. They understand that if therapy isn't improving your situation, you can adjust or end sessions at any time. There's no commitment to a specific number of sessions. We believe that after your first session, you'll notice the many ways therapy can benefit you.
